Mental health support services
- Young Minds: Young Minds provide information, resources and support for young people and their parents and carers to support mental health.
- The Mental Health Foundation: The Mental Health Foundation run a series of programmes for families, children and young people.
- Scottish Action for Mental Health: The Scottish Action for Mental Health (SAMH) offers resources, information and services to support the wellbeing of children and young people.
- Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland: The Mental Welfare Commission for Scotland was set up in 1960 under the Mental Health Act. Their duties are set out in current mental health and incapacity law. The commission’s mission is to be a leading and independent voice in promoting a society where people with mental illness, learning disabilities, dementia and related conditions are treated fairly, have their rights respected, and have appropriate support to live the life of their choice. They have a range of resources and information on their website explaining your rights under law, signposting to support and treatment, and an advice line.
- Samaritans Scotland: Samaritans is the charity that prevents suicide through the power of human connection. Connecting people in crisis with trained volunteers.
- Change Mental Health: Change Mental Health is a national mental health charity delivering non-clinical, person-centred support to people affected by mental illness in communities across the country.
- Rethink Mental Illness Advice Line: Rethink provides expert advice and information to people with mental health problems and those who care for them, as well as giving help to health professionals, employers and staff.
- Bipolar Scotland: Scotland’s leading charity focused on supporting those experiencing bipolar and their friends and family.
- Penumbra: Penumbra Mental Health provide services for people with mild to serious and enduring mental ill health.
- See Me: See Me is Scotland’s national programme to end mental health stigma and discrimination.
- Scottish Recovery Network: The Scottish Recovery Network bring people, services and organisations across sectors together to create a mental health system that embraces peer support and is powered by lived experience.
- NHS Breathing Space: Breathing Space is a free and confidential phone service for anyone in Scotland over the age of 16 feeling low, depressed or anxious.
