Welcome

An estimated one million people in Scotland live with a neurological condition that has a significant impact on their lives.

We are a forum of organisations and groups representing them.

Managed Service Network for Neurosurgery

The Managed Service Network for Neurosurgery is supporting the development of Clinical Standards for Neurosurgery. The Alliance provided important input to the development of these standards at a consultation meeting held in February 2010 where comments and suggestions from Alliance members were discussed with the standards project group.

The first draft of the clinical standards was distributed to clinicians, healthcare professionals, patient and voluntary sector organisations and other interested group followed by a further phase of development. With the guidance of NHS Quality Improvement Scotland, the development group have considered the comments and suggestions received on the first draft, developed a self-assessment framework and conducted a pilot of the revised draft in the Department of Clinical Neurosciences, NHS Lothian. A further consultation has since been carried out and the final standards are expected to be published towards the end of the year.

The operational management group continues to meet and recently heard a presentation on Deep Brain Stimulation from the Dystonia Society. Epilepsy Scotland is now also represented on the group and is currently taking forward a piece of work to identify people's experiences of epilepsy surgery in Scotland.
