Stitch in Time: Neurodegenerative conditions

We recently received funding from Evaluation Support Scotland to contribute to the ‘A Stitch in Time’ demonstration project which has been undertaken to inform the Reshaping care for Older People agenda.

Our focus was on the role of our relevant member organisations who provide support to older people in Lothian with degenerative neurological conditions and on illustrating and discussing their contribution.

European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA)

We recently participated in the 'Advocate for Brain, Mind and Pain Workshop' hosted by the European Federation of Neurological Associations (EFNA) and held in Brussels in September 2014.

The aim of the event was to share experiences regarding the challenges for those living with neurological disorders in various European countries, which need to be highlighted on the European agenda. We were also invited to share our experience of the benefits and challenges of having a national neurological alliance and provide advice on set up and delivery of a shared agenda.

The event also launched the EFNA toolkit 'Stronger Together' to which we contributed our Scottish experience. This guide aims to encourage the formation of National Neurological Alliances in different European countries where one does not currently exist.

EFNA is also currently working with Pain Alliance Europe to bring together an MEP Interest Group on Brain, Mind and Pain in the European Parliament.
The purpose of this group will be to: Raise political awareness of the impact of neurological and pain disorders from a biological, psychological, social and economic perspective – towards policy solutions aiming to prioritise these disorders, encourage research, increase access to innovative treatment, improve quality of life and decrease stigma.

We hope to continue to link in with EFNA and our European colleagues and ensure that the national issues faced by people with neurological conditions are being heard on the European stage
